This year WOBA had thirteen seniors apply for scholarships. Each and every one was very worthy of a scholarship. This made the hard part choosing. The five young men in the photo above were chosen as the winners for 2012. With their busy schedules in the coming weeks, they were able to come to the April 14th. Bluegrass Show to receive their awards. It was a lot of last minute planning and I thank Laura for all of her help. Thanks Laura! I would also like to especially thank Vernon & Kitty McIntyre for squeezing us into their show & giving us such a wonderful place to present our awards. They also help us with our mission, part of which is to introduce people to Bluegrass music. I believe we had 17 students and guests, many a first time to a Bluegrass Show. WOBA Members I would especially like to thank the WOBA members & friends who made special donations to our scholarship fund. It is through the generous help form these people we were able to create an extra scholarship. Good News for WOBA members! As a WOBA member you will now receive a $2.00 discount for Opry Shows as well as Bluegrass in the Cornfield Shows! Thanks Vernon & Kitty! It's been a while since the last Opry show in December. Memberships can be purchased & Re-newed at the March 10th Bluegrass In The Cornfields Show. You will receive your card when you pay your dues, no waiting! Join WOBA and watch your savings add up. The roots of the Western Ohio Bluegrass Association can be traced back to a Bluegrass Festival held at the Famous Old Time Music Company (FOTMC) in Wapakoneta, OH in 2008. After numerous discussions and countless e-mails, the nonprofit organization was officially formed in January 2009. Simply put, the purpose / mission of the Western Ohio Bluegrass Association, or WOBA (pronounced whoa buh) for short, is to introduce bluegrass music to anyone and everyone, promote this long time traditional music throughout the communities in Western Ohio, and preserve that distinctive acoustic sound we have all treasured throughout the years. Even if you don’t play an instrument or can’t carry a tune, as long as you enjoy bluegrass music at its best, this organization is for you.
Membership is open to anyone and all members are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings and to play an active role in the various WOBA programs and projects conducted throughout the year.
Membership to WOBA is only $10.00 a year per person. Members receive a $2.00 discount at all Bluegrass in the Cornfield shows held at Famous Old Time Music Company in Wapak, OH. (Your membership card must be presented when paying admission.) See About WOBA page for additional membership information. |
